Love him or hate him, Its no secret that Diplo has really come to the forefront of the music industry by blazing new trails in creativity. Hipsters will know that he’s been around since 2003 but has really hit the mainstream in the last few years with big name artists and labels approaching him to produce tracks for them because … y’know… “He’s so Hansol right now“. Named on Fast Company’s Top 100 Creative People of 2013, Thomas Wesley Pentz is known for incorporating multicultural rhythms into EDM (electronic dance music) creating styles like Moombahton and Tribal Guachero (just to name a few), capturing the interest of music aficionados on an international scale. As the founder of Mad Decent, they decided to throw a fun block party in Diplo’s adopted hometown, Philadelphia. The event became so popular they began to branch out to other cities in 2010.
This Friday, July 19th, Mad Decent brings their infamous block party to Canada for the first time kicking off in Calgary, Alberta at Prairie Winds Park! With sunshine in the forecast, I can’t think of a better way to get over a Stampede/Craven stint than partying in a space with a few of the world’s top electronic DJs.
I got my gear on lock (courtesy of Coda Clothing, of course) and am looking forward to hearing the likes of Major Lazer, Dillion Francis, Paul Devro and Flosstradamus… I recommend you vicariously experience this event via Vine or Instagram by following the hashtag #MDBP2013 … It’ll be like you’re really there… but not
