At Coda & Cade we have always been lucky to have built a family with our staff and customers and we have even been able to hire our family to be a part of the journey. Some of you may remember Colter's cousin Micah selling jeans on the sales floor or modelling in one of many Coda Hits The Runway and Saskatchewan Fashion Week fashion shows. In October of 2016 I was pregnant with our first baby Edie and at Thanksgiving Micah and her husband Jordan announced they too were having a baby! We couldn't be more excited, picturing future Christmas's together as the little's grew up together.
Soon however, the future became uncertain as Micah and Jordan were told their sweet baby had some heart abnormalities and they would have to begin monitoring the pregnancy closely.
On March 24, 2017, sweet Baby Indy was born. About 7 weeks after our healthy baby, Edie. Micah and Jordan then started the crazy journey of tests, and learned that Indy has Hypo Plastic Left Heart Syndrome which confirmed that the left arch of the Aortic artery was very narrow as well as part of the artery itself. Interesting enough, Indy was born with 2 holes in her heart which were kept open intentionally as they helped bring oxygenated blood to her organs and lower limbs that the artery itself was unable to do. These diagnoses were only a small part her journey however. Indy was a warrior as she spent 9 months in and out of surgeries (her parents actually don’t know how many she had, as they lost count), battling multiple complications and recovering from side effects caused from all the surgeries. On top of all that, Indy also became dependent on very serious drugs and pain killers and in the later stages of her hospital stay they had to battle drug dependency in an infant, something most of us had never thought about before and broke our hearts in two.
Micah and Jordan and Baby Indy were living in Edmonton for the first 9 months of Indy’s life. Indy stayed at the hospital and Micah and Jordan were fortunate enough to have access to the Ronald McDonald house, a safe place to sleep and eat and spend time with other families going through the toughest stuff most of us (luckily) never have to experience. Micah and Jordan will continue to use the Ronald McDonald House every 3 months for checkups until Indy is no longer a child.
We are grateful every day that Indy continued to fight through what most adults can’t, and we get to spend Christmas’s now with our growing families - watching the kids build memories together. This year, help us to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House by donating and getting your picture taken with Santa!
Santa will be visiting us the following days:
Friday, December 6th @ 2:00-5:00
Sunday, December 15th @ 12:00-4:00
Special thanks to Justine Marie Studios and Munz Media for helping us out with this project!
